Twin-Piston Mechanism, Machined In-House

The AT series uses two opposed pistons driving a common pinion, which balances the force on the output shaft and keeps the torque curve consistent across the 90° stroke. Racks and pinions are cut in our own machine shop rather than bought as finished parts, so tooth geometry, backlash and surface finish are controlled at the source. Pinion support and seal placement are arranged so that side loads from the valve stem stay away from the air chamber, which keeps leak performance stable over the life of the unit. The result is a compact package that fits in tight valve trains and delivers repeatable quarter-turn motion cycle after cycle.

Built for Long Service Life

Bodies are hard-anodized aluminum (EN AC-44300) to resist corrosion in humid plant air, and the piston and pinion seals are sized for the 2–8 bar supply range used by most industrial plants. Travel stops allow ±5° adjustment so the stroke angle can be trimmed to the valve's open and closed positions. Spring return versions add a spring cartridge that pushes the pistons back to the fail position when air is vented, so the same AT frame serves both modulating and safety duties. Batch samples are endurance-cycled to 1,000,000 cycles, which is the design life target stated on the AT series datasheet.

OEM & ODM for Valve Brands

A large share of our rack and pinion output leaves the factory under customer brands. Private label includes your logo, nameplate and packaging, while ODM work covers spring sets tuned to a specific torque curve, stroke angle changes, alternative coatings for coastal service, and mounting adaptations for non-standard valve patterns. Because the mechanism is machined in-house, a customer's torque curve can be matched without redesigning the body — spring selection, travel stops and coating changes are the levers, and they all sit inside our normal production flow. Drawings are issued for approval before batch production begins.

Torque Verification on Every Unit

Rack and pinion actuators earn their reputation on torque accuracy and seal integrity. Every assembled AT-series unit is mounted on a calibrated torque rig and stroked in both directions while output is measured against the datasheet curve for the customer's operating pressure. Air leak tests at the rated supply pressure verify the piston seals, port threads and spring-cartridge O-rings before packing.

Endurance is verified at the batch level: representative samples are cycled to 1,000,000 cycles while torque output and leak rate are monitored at intervals. Dimensional checks on ISO 5211 mounting faces and the NAMUR pad use calibrated gauges, and hard-anodized coating condition is inspected on every body. Per-lot QC reports accompany each shipment, and material certificates are available on request.

Accessories are a common failure point on actuator packages, so the assembled stack — solenoid valve, limit switch box, filter regulator — is verified when we ship a complete package. Wiring, port thread sizes and the NAMUR interface are checked against the order before packing, which removes the classic parts-do-not-fit-at-site problem for distributors who source the whole assembly from one factory.

Why choose rack and pinion over scotch yoke?

Rack and pinion actuators are more compact and cost-effective for valves up to about DN300, and their balanced twin-piston design delivers a consistent torque profile across the stroke. Scotch yoke actuators generate higher torque at the end positions, which matters for large valves with high breakout requirements. Our engineers will recommend one or the other based on your valve size, pressure class and torque curve.

What torque range do your rack and pinion actuators cover?

The AT series covers 8–4,000+ Nm in double acting configuration, with spring return torque specified per model. When a project exceeds the rack and pinion range, our scotch yoke line extends coverage to 200,000+ Nm, so the factory can supply the complete torque spread.
